An Apt Analogy
The tobacco industry:
"Once they begin, people are highly motivated to smoke. It's an addiction. We can profit greatly from this behavior. We need to provide strong incentives for people to start smoking and to continue doing so for years. If we are ever questioned about our provision of incentives for this destructive behavior and the taking of profit from it, we should deny for as long as possible that we knew what was going on or that we in any way intended to encourage it. State governments will help us cover it up because they make money from it too. This is rich milk, and we deserve it more than the smokers."
Judges, lawyers, child support collections officials, and other profiteers in the Divorce Industry:
"Once they begin, people are highly motivated to fight over their children. It's stronger than an addiction. We can profit greatly from this behavior. We need to provide strong incentives for people to divorce and start fight over their children, and to continue doing so for years. If we are ever questioned about our provision of incentives for this destructive behavior and the taking of profit from it, we should deny for as long as possible that we knew what was going on or that we in any way intended to encourage it. State governments will help us cover it up because they make money from it too. This is rich milk, and we deserve it more than the children."
