Dear Mr. Graham and Mr. Nicholson:

Today I received the second of two solicitations for the Republican National Committee, along with a “survey”.

I write to you to inform you as to why I cannot support the Republican National Committee at this time, despite having just voted – in error, it would appear, for Mr. Bush in the Illinois Primary.

I am a long-time Republican.  Ever since I turned 18, my leanings have been towards the Republican, and sometimes the Libertarian, parties.  I cannot recall ever voting for a Democrat in any office – but I am seriously considering doing so in November for President of the United States, despite how much I truly despise Al Gore.

Why?

Simple – your party has lost touch with mainstream America, and more particularly, families, children, and men.  People who are, or so you claim, your “core constituents”.

I have sent two copies of a letter to Mr. Nicholson, asking for specific affirmation or denial of a position on the rights of families and children, beginning on 2-4-2000.  He has twice failed to respond in any way.

Just the other day, I learned why.

Your candidate for President, Mr. Bush, has no problem whatsoever with destroying families, children, and, incidentally, men.

I speak specifically of his statement after hearing that the Miami Judge had tossed out the lawsuit intended to deprive Juan Gonzalez of his Son, Elian – in which he said that A Florida Family Court ought to hear the custody matter of Elian.

Nonsense.

Juan Gonzalez is the only surviving biological parent of Elian.  There is no reason to believe or even suspect that he is incompetent to care for the boy; in fact, the record clearly shows that he was doing so prior to the illegal and premeditated abduction of Elian by his mother.

The law on this matter – and what it mandates – under International, Federal and Florida State law is clear.  The UCCJA (Uniform Child Custody Jurisdiction Act) was enacted precisely to put a stop to these illegal kidnappings by parents with the willful intent of depriving the other parent of contact and custody of their child.

George W. Bush has clearly stated that he holds no conviction for the rule of law whatsoever – and that he would abrogate not only Florida’s state law, but US Federal and International Law as well.

By this statement he has declared in a loud voice that he is unfit to be President of the United States.

If the Republican Party is to regain the White House, it must do so under a mandate of the rule of law.  It must do so with the clear and convincing belief – and practice – that the Constitution, the Bill of Rights, and the law of the land will be upheld – not exploited for political ends and sold in the quest for Florida’s electoral vote.

You already have copies of my petitions to the United States Congress.  And now, you have this.

Until the Republican Party demonstrates through public pronouncements with specific policy initiatives that back both the rule of law for families (and their rights), as well as the rule of law and the rights of a little six year old Cuban boy, your party can remove me from your solicitations and lists.

All you do today by sending me these materials is continue to drive my ballot towards the election of Democrats.

The courtesy of a meaningful response would be appreciated.

Sincerely,

Karl Denninger
